Olivet returns from Viterbo Tournament 2-2

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Things are coming together for the Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team. The Tigers return home from the Viterbo University Tournament with a 2-2 record, posting their first back-to-back victories of the season. Freshman setter Katie Tabisz (Lockport, Ill.) continued to prove herself, finishing the weekend with 93 assists and adding 18 kills.

The Tigers (4-8) dropped their opening match on Friday against Clarke Univeristy (Iowa) in straight sets (19-25, 24-26, 19-25). Senior McKenzie Thompson (Plano, Texas) led the offense with 13 kills in 23 attempts with just four errors (.391). Tabisz and sophomore setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) dished out 26 and 16 assists, respectively. Junior Heidi Schoenbein (Morton, Ill.) added eight kills in 13 attempts with one hitting error (.538).

Olivet then downed Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-21). Thompson and Schoenbein led the Tigers again with 10 kills each. Tabisz finished with 23 assists, while Enz added 12. Thompson also led the Tigers with 13 digs and Schoenbein finished with four blocks.

The Tigers continued their winning ways on Saturday morning, outlasting Hannibal-LaGrange University (Iowa) in a five-set showdown (24-26, 25-22, 27-25, 16-25, 15-11). Tabisz posted a career-high 35 assists, while adding 12 digs, five kills and five blocks. Schoenbein finished with 19 kills in 42 attempts with just three errors (.381). Freshman Jordan TerBush (Metamora, Ill.) added a career-high 13 kills in 39 (.345).

Olivet couldn't keep their winning streak alive as they faced No. 15 Viterbo University (Wis.) in the final match. The V-Hawks won in straight sets (18-25, 16-25, 10-25). Tabisz led the Tigers with nine assists and seven kills.

The Tigers open Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Trinity Christian College (Ill.) for a 7p.m. matchup with the Trolls.
