BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team improved to 2-1 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play with a 3-1 win over Purdue University – Calumet (Ind.) on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The Tigers took the opening set easily 25-10, but the Peregrine regrouped to take the second set 27-25 before Olivet finished things off 25-15, 25-21.
Sophomore Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) ended the night with 13 kills, with senior McKenzie Thompson (Plano, Texas) and junior Heidi Schoenbein (Morton, Ill.) adding eight and seven, respectively. Thompson and Schoenbein each finished with attack percentages of .353, combining for only three attack errors.
The setter duo of sophomore Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) and freshman Katie Tabisz (Lockport, Ill.) combined for 37 assists, 17 and 20 apiece. Tabisz also added four kills, two service aces, eight digs and two blocks. Junior Kaia Lenzi (Beach Park, Ill.) was a wall at the net, finishing with eight total blocks.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept. 26 as they take on defending CCAC Regular Season Champion University of Saint Francis (Ill.) at 7:00 p.m. in McHie Arena.
