Olivet outlasts St. Francis in CCAC matchup

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – With nearly 500 screaming, enthusiastic fans watching, the Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team upset defending Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference regular season champion University of Saint Francis (Ill.) in five, extremely close sets. The Tigers finally finished off the Fighting Saints after nearly two hours of competition 26-28, 25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 15-8.
Olivet (8-11, 2-1) had three players finish in double digits in kills, led by junior Heidi Schoenbein (Morton, Ill.) with 17. Schoenbein finished with just six hitting errors in 33 attempts for an attack percentage of .333. Sophomore Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) added 14 kills, while junior Kaia Lenzi (Beach Park, Ill.) was unstoppable with an attack percentage of .600, with 12 kills in 20 attempts with no errors.
Freshman Katie Tabisz (Lockport, Ill.) dished out 32 assists on the night and added 17 digs. Sophomore Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) finished with 20 assists. Lenzi and Schoenbein also finished with four blocks each.
The win puts the Tigers in second place in the CCAC South Division behind Trinity Christian College. Olivet will travel to Indiana University-South Bend on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to take on the Titans in a 6:00 p.m. (EST) CCAC matchup.
