BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team seems to have hit a groove, winning eight in a row, including going a perfect 4-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Over held McHie Arena on Oct. 4-5. In the four match weekend, the Tigers only went past three sets in one match, going five with Roosevelt University (Ill.).

Olivet (14-11, 8-2) opened up play with Trinity International University (Ill.) dominating the Trojans 25-11, 25-17, 25-16. Senior McKenzie Thompson (Plano, Texas) led the Tigers with nine kills in 15 attempts (.400), with sophomore Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) adding seven and junior Heidi Schoenbein  (Morton, Ill.) with six. Freshman setter Katie Tabisz (Lockport, Ill.) dished out 18 assists in the match, while sophomore Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) added 10. Junior Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) led the defense with 20 digs.

In Friday’s night cap, the Tigers made quick work of Saint Xavier University (Ill.), downing the Cougars 25-15, 25-19, 25-17. Thompson again led the way with 10 kills. DeRuiter finished with six and senior Katelyn Miller (Avon, Ind.) and junior Kaia Lenzi (Beach Park, Ill.) added five each. Tabisz and Enz combined for 25 assists, 14 and 11 respectively.

Day two started with the Tigers learning they would finish the weekend without Thompson, who suffered an injury on Friday and was unable to play on Saturday. That didn’t stop the Tigers however, as they defeated Roosevelt 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 19-25, 15-8. Lenzi stepped up to lead Olivet with 11 kills in 21 attempts with just two errors (.429). She also added four service aces and nine blocks. Miller finished with eight kills and four blocks. Tabisz dished out 24 assists, while adding three kills, two service aces and 10 digs. Enz finished with 17 assists.

Olivet finished the weekend downing Robert Morris University (Ill.) 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. Schoenbein and DeRuiter each finished the match with nine kills with Schoenbein adding four blocks. Tabisz set up the attack with 19 assists, while Enz finished with 12. Hatalla added 13 digs, as did sophomore Carly Wenzleman (Bonfield, Ill.).

Olivet now sits in second place in the CCAC South Division, behind undefeated Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The Tigers will face Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in McHie Arena.
