Streak continues with straight-set win over CCSJ

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team’s winning streak extended to nine matches on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as they defeated Calumet College of St. Joe in straight sets, 25-10, 25-21, 25-13. The Tigers improved to 15-11 overall and 9-1 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and now sit in second place.
Olivet was led by sophomore Becky DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) who finished the night with 12 kills in 28 attempts with just two errors (.357). She also added three blocks. Junior Heidi Schoenbein (Morton, Ill.) added seven kills, while senior Katelyn Miller (Avon, Ind.) added six. Miller also led the Tigers with four blocks.
Sophomore setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) dished out a team high 16 assists, while freshman Katie Tabisz (Lockport, Ill.) added 14. Tabisz finished with 12 assists, followed by junior libero Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) with 11.
Olivet will take a short break from action, not playing again until Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Trinity Christian College (Ill.) for the annual Dig Pink fundraiser match. Trinity Christian currently sits ahead of the Tigers in the CCAC standings with a perfect 10-0 record. The two teams met on Sept. 12 with the Trolls taking a straight-set victory, 25-16, 32-30, 25-9.
