BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – In a game that saw the top and the bottom of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) face-off, the 125-111 final score is a bit deceiving. The No. 6 Olivet Nazarene University Tigers found themselves fighting until the end of the game to take down a feisty Trinity International University (Ill.) team on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in McHie Arena.
“Trinity International plays so especially well in an up-tempo style game. We knew they were going to be a tough matchup,” said head coach Lauren Stamatis. “They finished very well around the basket and rebounded well. I was proud of the way our girls gained composure at the end of the game and finished strong.”
Olivet (15-2, 11-1) had five players scoring in double-digits. Junior Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.) finished the night with 20 points, while dishing out nine assists and swiping four passes. She shot an impressive 7-of-9 (.777) from the field and 5-of-7 (.714) from the line.
Sophomore Ashley Wilson (Portage, Mich.) shot a near perfect 8-of-9 (.888) from the field, finishing with 21 points. She also pulled down five rebounds. Junior Malory Adams (Aurora, Ill.) continues to be hot for the Tigers, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. She also blocked a career-high six shots and posted a career-high four steals.
Senior Devin Johnston (Bloomingdale, Ill.) had a career night, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds. Senior Danielle Tolbert (Pontiac, Mich.) also added 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
The Tigers will take on CCAC foe No. 11 Saint Xavier University (Ill.) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The two teams faced each other earlier this season with the Tigers upsetting the then higher ranked Cougars 100-88.
