SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Senior Danielle Tolbert (Pontiac, Mich.) led the No. 6 Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team with 21 points, helping the Tigers to a 89-84 win over Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Saturday, Jan. 12. The victory comes just days after the Tigers suffered just their third loss of the season.
“Holy Cross looked to hold the ball on us in the half court,” commented head coach Lauren Stamatis. “We had a rough start and didn't shoot the ball well all night. Once we made a few adjustments, we forced them into more of our running game and we were able to capitalize on getting to the basket off the drive.”
Tolbert was helped by sophomore Ashley Wilson (Portage, Mich.) who finished the day with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Juniors Taylor Haymes (Wentzville, Mo.) and Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.) and freshman Krystal James (Rockford, Ill.) all finished with nine points each. Haymes also added three rebounds, while Geever added two rebounds and five steals.
Olivet (16-3, 12-2) have struggled lately meeting their game goals, finishing the afternoon shooting just 7-of-36 (.194) from behind the arch and 30-of-77 (.390) from the field.
The Tigers return to action at 5:30 on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as they host Indiana University-South Bend in McHie Arena. The two teams faced-off on Nov. 17 with the Tigers narrowly escaping with a 94-90 win on the road.
