BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – It took an extra year, but Kayla Hyde has signed a letter of intent to finish her playing career and education at Olivet Nazarene University. Hyde, a 2012 Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School graduate, will transfer to Olivet from Greenville College (Ill.) in the fall of 2013.
“We’re thrilled to have Kayla join our program,” said head coach Lauren Stamatis. “She will challenge those around her athletically and spiritually. We’ve had the chance to see her play since she was in high school and are glad to finally have her be a part of our program.”
Hyde, a 5-9 forward, played in all 25 games for the Panthers including starting in 24. She averaged 7.2 points per game, while pulling down 6.2 rebounds. She left BBCHS averaging 13.8 points per game with 9.8 rebounds. As a Boilermaker, she was named to the all-conference in the South West Suburban Conference as a junior and senior.
A National Honor Society (NHS) member, Hyde intends to pursue a degree in psychology while at Olivet. She is the daughter of Gary and Lynne Hyde, both Olivet alums. Her younger sister Jayna will join her at Olivet in the fall as a freshman.
“I chose ONU because I wanted to go to a college that would help me grow spiritually, academically and athletically,” said Hyde of her choice. “Plus, it’s close to home. I can’t wait to be part of the rich tradition and history at Olivet.”
