CHICAGO – Roosevelt University was one of two teams to take down the Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team twice last season, the only team to do it in the regular season. The Tigers made sure to not that happen again, downing the No. 22 Lakers 112-99 on Saturday, Jan. 25. With the win, the Tigers maintain second place in the South Division of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) at 8-2, right behind Purdue Calumet (9-1), as the final month of the regular season begins.
Olivet (15-7, 8-2) was led by senior Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.), who narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 27 points, nine assists, five rebounds, and five steals. Three other players finished in double-digits: senior Liz Bart (Cary, Ill.) with 26 points, senior Malory Adam (Aurora, Ill.) had 15 points and sophomore Holly Carter (Pueblo, Colo.) finished with 11 points. Sophomore Cortney Allenbaugh (Morton, Ill.) added a team-high nine rebounds, six on the offensive end.
Geever’s five steal performance moved her into second in steals (315) in program history, while her five assists puts her in 10th in assists (331).
The Tigers will return to McHie Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to take on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in another important CCAC match-up. Trinity is currently 2-8 in the conference and sits at the bottom of the North Division. The Tigers have won the last three meetings with Trinity last season, 93-44 at home on Nov. 28, 2012, 103-47 at Trinity on Jan. 26, 2013, and 112-67 at the CCAC Tournament in Bourbonnais on Feb. 18, 2013.
