HAMMOND, Ind. – Coming off two important wins the Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team had some momentum entering their game against No. 21 Purdue University -Calumet on Saturday, Feb. 1. However, momentum wasn’t enough as the Tigers were out shot by Purdue-Calumet and came up short, losing 101-114. Despite shooting well from behind the arc, 19-of-48 (.402), the defense struggled to stop the Peregrines who shot 41-of-78 (.526) from the field and 14-of-26 (.538) from 3-pt land.
The Tigers (16-8, 9-3) were led by senior guard Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.), who tallied 21 points, five assists, and three steals. She was followed by three other Tigers: sophomore Cortney Allenbaugh (Morton, Ill.) with 12 points and two steals, sophomore Jayne Stuart (Jackson, Mich.) finished with 11 points, six assists, and three steals, while sophomore Jessica Gerig (Stillman Valley, Ill.) added 10 points and five rebounds. Junior Dakota Hack (Briston, Tenn.) led the Tigers with eight rebounds.
Purdue-Calumet had three players’ drop 20-plus points, led by Tierra Turner who had 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Olivet returns to action against CCAC rival University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on Thursday, Feb. 6 in McHie Arena. The Tigers have won the last two meetings with St. Francis, defeating the Saints on the road on Jan. 5, 2013, 101-89. Their most recent meeting was at Olivet on Feb. 16, 2013 and the Tigers won 113-102.
