SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Sophomore Cortney Allenbaugh (Morton,
Ill.) picked the perfect time to bust out a season-high scoring performance.
Allenbaugh’s 22 points helped lead the No. 25 Olivet Nazarene University
women’s basketball team to a 91-86 win over Concordia University (Neb.) in the
opening round of the NAIA National Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Tyson
Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Tigers (23-10) led throughout the first half of play and
entered the lockerrooms with a 50-46 lead. But the Bulldogs came out in the
second half with new life and quickly took the lead. Olivet stayed focus and
tied it back up with 15 minutes to play and never relinquished it again.
Allenbaugh shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 8-of-10
from the charity stip. She also added a team-high seven rebounds. Senior
Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.) added 16 points and four assists.
Freshman Carlee Nicolas (Momence, Ill.) matched her
career-high of 11 points, shooting 3-of-5 from behind the three point line.
Senior Taylor Haymes (Wentzville, Mo.) also added 11 points on the day, while
pulling down five rebounds. Nicolas also added three rebounds.
The Tigers advance to the Field of 16 for the first time
since the 2010-11 season. Olivet will face Southwestern College (Kan.) at 8:30
a.m. on Friday, March 14.
