After a hard three games in a row we finally had a few days to relax and recover. Coach gave us the Monday after our Purdue-Calumet game off. It was a good few days for all of us. Not only did we get to relax but we knew we didn’t have to worry about whether or not we were going to Nationals. We could go to practice with our normal mindset, no questions in the back of our mind. It was definitely a different feeling than we had the year before but it was by far a better feeling. Last year we weren’t even sure we were going to make it, we had lost in the first round of the tournament. By Wednesday we were all anxious to know when/who we were going to be playing. So in honor of the Nationals Drawing we sat down and had a team dinner of the Tigerball favorite…..Jimmy Joe’s. We (including coaches and practice squad) all gathered in room 100 for a “family” dinner and watched what we thought was the beginning of the drawings.
Unfortunately, the screen kept buffering so we missed our name. It didn’t start working until the very last round. We were seeing all the teams but ours. Suddenly it was over and we all sat there confused, until we realized we had missed it. We were sitting there not even knowing who/when we were playing. Being a pessimist at heart I naturally thought something went wrong and we didn’t actually make it nationals like we thought. But of course, Moms always know when to message their kids because right as I was thinking that my mom sent a text with the time and team. As soon as I saw the time, my first thought was “are you kidding me? 8:30 in the morning, this has to be a joke. Who wants to play that early?” I had to tell myself at least you’re playing in the national tournament. I kept thinking that “by this time next week we will be marching in the parade of champions. We will either be looking forward to a game Friday or planning a trip home.” But we don’t need to worry about the later one. All we need to worry about at this point is “what are we going to wear for the banquet?”
