GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head coach Mike McDowell challenged his No. 4 Olivet Nazarene University women’s cross country team to take a slightly different approach to start the NAIA Great Lakes Invite on Saturday, Oct. 20. In hopes of preparing his team for the upcoming national meet, he asked them to leave the starting line strong and push themselves at the beginning of the race. The approach seemed to work as the Tigers captured the title in the 32 team field.
The Tigers top five finishers crossed the finish line at 1:32:10.54, more than two minutes ahead of second place No. 9 Cornerstone University (Mich.). Huntington University (Ind.), the University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Aquinas College (Mich.) rounded out the top five team finishers.
Senior Kortney Ellingboe (Hamilton, Ill.) continues to lead the Tiger assault, finishing fourth of 355 runners. She crossed the finish line at 18:09.71. Finishing sixth overall and shaving 30 seconds off of her personal best time was freshman Kathryn Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill.) who finished at 18:23.36. Senior Hannah Endrizzi (Normal Ill.) was just seconds behind at 18:26.35 for a seventh place finish.
Junior Leah Livingston (Gibson City, Ill.) placed 11th overall, crossing the line at 18:35.58. The fifth Tiger finisher was junior Janina Roche (Crete, Ill.) who came in at 18:35.86 for 13th place.
The Tigers will look to defend their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference title at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Nov.3 at Dellwood Park in Lockport, Ill.
