BETTENDORF, Iowa – The No. 6 Olivet Nazarene University women’s cross country team dominated the 2013 Fighting Bees Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12…there is no other word to describe it. The Tigers finished in six of the top seven spots, with just one runner from Augustana College ruining their sweep.
Freshman Sarah Ray (Warsaw, Ind.), competing in just her second collegiate race, crossed the finish line in 18:24 to take first place. Junior Leah Livingston (Gibson City, Ill.) ran a personal best 18:38 to take second place. Jessica Bacon of Augustana finished at 18:45 to take third place, but sophomore Bethany Pilat (Livonia, Mich.) and freshman Elizabeth Soper (Grand Rapids, Mich.) were just seconds behind at 18:46 and 18:47, respectively to take fourth and fifth. Senior Christy Trank (Winnebago, Ill.) rounded out the Tigers top five, crossing at 18:51.
Second place went to host St. Ambrose Univeristy (Iowa), while Augustana took third place.
Olivet will finish the regular season with two of the strongest races of the season. On Saturday, Oct. 26 the Tigers will travel to the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational hosted by Aquinas College (Mich). Two weeks later, they will attempt to capture the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship hosted by Calumet College of St. Joe.
