Tigers run away with Midwest Classic

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.- There was rain, lots of rain. There was thunder and lightning. There was a delay to the start of th race. The No. 3 Olivet Nazarene Univeristy women's cross country team overcame all of the elements to claim the top spot at the Midwest Classic held at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
The Tigers top five runners recorded a combined time of 1:34:45.98 (18.57.20 average), three minutes ahead of second place finisher Taylor University (Ind.). St. Xavier University (Ill.) and Trinity Christian College (Ill.) placed fourth and fifth, separated by less than one minute. St. Ambrose University (Iowa) rounded out the top five team finishes.
Senior All-American Kortney Ellingboe (Hamilton, Ill.) was the top individual finisher of the day, setting the pace at 18.29.43. Ashley Shares of St. Xavier finished second at 18.41.78, while Anna Bos of Trinity Christian claimed third at 18.52.42.
Olivet's Bethany Pilat (Livonia, Mich.), Grace Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill.), Hannah Endrizzi (Normal, Ill.) and Chantalle Falconer (Bryon, Ill.) claimed the next four positions in the field of 137 runners.
Pilat, a freshman, came in under the 19 minute mark with a time of 18.59.07, with Dean, also a freshman, finishing just over at 19.01.14.
Endrizzi, a senior, was not far behind at 19.02.2, while junior Falconer crossed the line at 19.14.05.
The Tigers race next at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invite hosted by Illinois State University on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. The event will take place at Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
