Tigers end strong to take 5th at Battle at Blackthorn

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior Lydia Bilyeu (Fulton, Ill.) shot rounds of 81 and 82 to finish 11th overall and lead the Olivet Nazarene University women’s golf team to a fifth place finish at the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel College (Ind.) on Sept. 13-14.
Bethel College captured the overall title in the 12 team field with a team total of 637, followed by Indiana Institute of Technology with 341, Madonna University (Mich.) with 661 and Aquinas College (Mich.) at 670. The Tigers shot 343 on Friday and settled down for a 329 on Saturday, finishing with a 672 total.
Sophomore Bridget Wolff (East Peoria, Ill.) shot an opening round 87, but followed it up with an 81 to finish tied for 19th overall. Senior Ashley Miller (Springhill, Kan.) was right behind with rounds of 87 and 82 to finish tied for 21st. Sophomore Kelsey Fisk (Greenfield, Ind.) placed tied for 28th overall with rounds of 88 and 84, while senior Ashley Dinneweth (Scotts, Mich.) finished 51st with a 193.
Olivet will complete in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic (CCAC) Conference Preview on Tuesday, Sept. 17 hosted by Robert Morris University (Ill.). The 2013-14 season marks the first time that women’s golf will be an official sport in the CCAC. The Championship will take place in the spring of 2014 with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship.
