GAYLORD, Mich. – Rain is rarely the friend of a golfer and
that is certainly the case for the Olivet Nazarene University women’s golf
team. For the second straight year the Tigers have had their season opener cut
short by bad weather. Rain forced the cancellation of day two of the Crusader
Classic hosted by Madonna University at The Tradition at Treetops, forcing the
scores back to the day one finals.
Senior Lydia Bilyeu (Fulton, Ill.) led the Tigers, shooting
an 83 (+11) in the opening round to finish tied for eighth place overall. No
far behind was teammate junior Kelsey Fisk (Greenfield, Ind.) with an 85 (+13)
in 13th place. Bridget Wolff (East Peoria, Ill.) finished tied for 19th place
with an 87 (+15), while senior Jessica Eckerley (Peru, Ind.) and sophomore
Sydney Tyler (Bloomington, Ill. ) finished in 30th and 31st,
respectively just one shot apart at 93 and 94.
The Tiger finished tied for fourth in the team competition,
shooting a combined 348 (+60). William Penn University (Iowa) captured the team
title with a 317 (+29), well ahead of second place Madonna at 332 (+44). Bethel
College (Ind.) finished third at 342 (+54).
Olivet will return to action on Sept. 8-9 at the Midwest
Collegiate Invitational at The Preserve Gold Course at Honey Creek Resort State
Park in Moravia, Iowa. Competition is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. both
