Bloomington standout signs with Tigers

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Sydney Tyler (Bloomington, Ill.) has committed to continue her education and playing career as a member of the Olivet Nazarene University women’s golf team, beginning in the fall of 2013.
Head Coach Bill Johnson, who has known Sydney and the Tyler family for two years and said, “I was impressed with Sydney from the first time we met, she is a hardworking, delightful young lady. She is a welcome addition to our University. I am confident Sydney will perform at the highest level, both, in the classroom and on the golf course.”
Tyler, who brings an 83 stroke average to the Tiger clubhouse, has served as a team captain throughout high school career and is a two-time Big 12 All-Conference honoree. As a junior, she was an individual state qualifier and a Big 12 Scholar-Athlete.
A senior at Bloomington High School, Tyler is extremely involved at school and in the community. Besides playing varsity golf, she is a member of the school swim team, the speech team and has participated in three plays in the drama department. Sydney also gives of her time with the Bloomington High School House of Style; she is a member of the Alpha Omega Saints Youth Ministry and serves as the President of the Youth Usher Board at Mount Moriah Christian Church. She is a Bloomington Junior High School Outdoor Education Junior Staffer, on the Relay for Life committee and is secretary of the African American History Club.
“Sydney is a very accomplished player, hardworking and competitive, Sydney plays in several summer tournaments as well, participating in MAJGT, IJGA and AJGA Junior Tours,” added Johnson. “Sydney is a player who will step in and make an impact on day one for the Tiger golf team, we are excited to add her to our growing list of accomplished players”.
