Holmes finishes tied for first; Tigers place second

 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - After a full round of golf, the Olivet Nazarene University women’s golf team found themselves tied with Carthage College (Wis.) at 352. Using a tie-breaker, the Tigers were awarded second place in the 11 team field at the NCC Cardinal Classic hosted by North Central College at the Spring Brook Golf Course in Naperville, Ill. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. 

Senior Gwen Holmes (Princeton, Ill.) shot an 81 on the day, finishing tied for 1st place individually with Carthage’s Erin Hoist. Freshman Kelsey Fisk (Greenfield, Ind.) finished tied for eighth place individually with an 87. Rounding out the top four finishers for the Tigers were junior Ashley Miller (Springhill, Kan.) and senior Nora Durkin (Peotone, Ill.) at 91 and 93 respectively. 

The tie-breaker came down to the fifth and finally sixth place finishers.  Senior Libby Walker (Andover, Kan.) finished fifth for the Tigers shooting a 93 tying the fifth place finisher for the Lady Reds. Sophomore  Lydia Bilyeu ’s (Fulton, Ill.) 96 was one shot better than her competitor’s, giving the Tigers second place. 

Calvin College took the top spot with a 349. Rounding out the top five behind Olivet and Carthage were North Central College with a combined 353 and Robert Morris University (Ill.) with a 361. 

Olivet will travel to Bethel College (Ind.) on Sept. 24-25 for the Battle at Blackthorn at Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
