BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The No. 10 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to play—partly sunny, 64 degrees, slight breeze. The Tigers took full advantage of the perfect conditions to drop Roosevelt University (Ill.) 2-0 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
The Tigers (6-2) dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Lakers 26 to two. Olivet finished with 15 shots-on-goal to just two from the host team. Senior goal keeper Wendy Espejel (Ontario, Cal.) notched her fifth shut-out of the season.
Despite the lop-sided statistics, the score was knotted 0-0 at the half. Olivet moved the ball well and was aggressive on offense ending the half with 13 shots. Roosevelt’s goal keeper, Sydney Self successfully stopped seven Tiger shots-on-goal.
The first score came at 46:51 when the Tigers took advantage of a miscue by the Lakers who inadvertently scored on their own goal off of a corner kick.
With less than three minutes before time expired in the contest, sophomore Jordan Dunn (Peoria, Ill.) took a corner kick from senior Kelsey Warp (Arrowhead Cal.) to score her first goal of the season.
Olivet will travel to Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) for a 5 p.m. CCAC match-up on Saturday, Sept. 29.
