BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Sophomore forward Jessica Higer took a pass from freshman forward Elizabeth Hetrick at the 81:51 minute mark and netted it past a diving Illinois Institute of Technology’s goal keeper Amy Arnhart. The lone goal gave No. 9 Olivet Nazarene University the 1-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Saturday, Oct. 6 and enabled them to remain undefeated and alone atop the conference standings.
The Tiger (9-2, 5-0) defense continues to dominate their opponents, allowing just four shots in the game and only two shots-on-goal. Senior goal keeper Wendy Espejel (Ontario, Cal.) recorded her sixth shutout of the season, notching two saves in the game.
The game winning goal was the third goal on the season for Higer (Kuna, Idaho), while the assist was Hetrick’s (Plainfield, Ind.) second. The Tigers took a total of 24 shots in the game, 16 of which were in the second half. The Scarlet Hawks recorded nine saves, three by Jessica Carlson and six by Arnhart.
Olivet will travel to South Bend, Ind. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 to take on Holy Cross College at 4 p.m. local time.
