DEERFIELD, Ill. – The No. 10 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team finds itself alone atop the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with its perfect 9-0 records. The Tigers have yet to give up a goal in conference play, and have out shot their opponents 198 to 39. Of the shots taken, 108 have been on-goal for Olivet compared to just 22 by their opponents. Their latest victim was Trinity International University (Ill.) who fell 3-0 to the Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The Trojans kept things close in the opening half, limiting the Tigers (13-2, 9-0) to just four shots. Senior goal keeper Wendy Espejel (Ontario, Cal.) was matched by TIU goal keeper, Liz Burzynski as both finished the half with two saves.

Freshman Elisabeth Wahl (Homer Glen, Ill.) broke the stalemate at the 48:28 mark as she netted a keeper error to give the Tigers the lead. Senior Devin Johnston (Bloomingdale, Ill.) added a second Tiger goal at 73:33 off of a penalty kick. Just six minutes later, sophomores Jessica Higer (Kuna, Idaho) and McKenie Hengesh (Canton, Mich.) teamed up for the third and final goal.

Olivet finished the night with 13 shots, seven of which were on-goal. The Trojans were limited by the strong Tiger defense to just eight total shots, five were on-goal. Espejel ended the game with five saves, tying the most she has had all season.

Olivet will host the University of St. Francis at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in another CCAC match-up. The Saints are currently 5-4 in conference play and 11-5 overall.
