BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Perfection. The Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team finished Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 27 with a 5-0 defeat of St. Xavier University (Ill.). The win put the Tigers at 11-0 in conference play. While that alone is impressive, more impressive is the fact that they did it without allowing a single goal to be scored against them.
Olivet (15-2, 11-0) finished the conference sweep outscoring their opponents 41-0. The Tigers took 243 shots, while allowing just 45. Of the 45 shots allowed, only 25 were shots-on-goal. Senior goal keeper Wendy Espejel (Ontario, Calif.) accounted for 23 of the 25 saves, while freshman Amanda Siciak (Bloomingdale, Ill.) took care of the rest.
Against the Cougars, sophomore Katie Smith (Spring Lake, Mich.) got the Tigers on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 23:44 mark. Smith added the second goal just seven minutes later off of a pass by senior Jordan Wallek (Chicago Heights, Ill.). Sophomore Jessica Higer (Kuna, Idaho) and freshman Betsy Hetrick (Plainfield, Ill.) teamed up for the third goal of the half at the 40:54 mark.
Hetrick kept things going after the half, netting a pass by senior Katina Holm (Antioch, Ill.). Just three minutes later, the Cougars scored on themselves off of a misplayed save attempt.
Olivet will host Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for earlier in the season, but postponed on the visitor’s request. The Tigers will receive an opening round bye in the CCAC Tournament and will host a semi-final game on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
