BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Tough defense. That’s how most people would describe the No. 10 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team. Sure, the offense has scored its fair share of goals, but the defense is yet to allow a goal against a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent. In fact, they have only allowed 45 shots in 11 games. Of the 45, 25 were shots-on-goal.
he pillar in the middle of the defense all season has been senior Devin Johnston. The 5-10 defender from Bloomingdale, Ill. has been a steady fixture all season. For her efforts, she has been named the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27.
Johnston helped the Tigers run their shutout streak to 11 games with her play in conference victories over both University of St. Francis and Saint Xavier University this past week. In the two games combined, ONU's defense allowed only six shots total with just three on goal. She also added an assist in the game against the Saints.
The Tigers, which gained the No. 1 seed for the upcoming postseason tournament, are 15-2 overall and completed the league's regular season a perfect 11-0. They received an opening round bye and will face the winner of Trinity International University (Ill.) and Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
