SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore Betsy Hetrick (Plainfield, Ind.) scored her first career hat trick to propel the No. 8 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team over Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The Tigers came away with a 6-0 win to open Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Hetrick got Olivet (5-2, 1-0) on the board early, netting a rebound off the Saints keeper just seven and half minutes into the match. Just four minutes later, at 12:21, she took a pass from freshman Ellen West (West Chester, Ohio) to put the Tigers up 2-0.
In all, the Tigers took 32 shots on the day with 17 of those being on target. Holy Cross keeper, Aileen Clouse finished the day with 11 saves. The Olivet keeper combination of freshman Sarah Vrosh (Rockford, Mich.) and sophomore Amanda Siciak (Bloomingdale, Ill.) combined for the Tigers 16th consecutive CCAC regular season shutout. The Saints managed just two shots.
Olivet added three more goals in the opening half thanks to the duo of junior Jessica Higer (Kuna, Idaho) and sophomore Liz Wahl (Home Glen, Ill.). At 30:45 and 36:18, Higer netted passes from Wahl. Sandwiched in the middle, Wahl scored an unassisted goal.
Hetrick finished things off at the 60:05 mark, scoring the third of her goals, unassisted.
Olivet will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 as they travel to Elgin, Ill. to take on No. 19 Judson University. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30p.m.
