BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After 110 minutes of action, the No. 19 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team walked away from the Wednesday, Oct. 9 match with RV Trinity Christian College (Ill.) with mixed emotions. On one hand, the Tigers are disappointed to come away with a 0-0 tie with their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival. On the other hand, they are grateful to come away with just a tie.
The Tigers (7-3-1, 3-1-1) had every opportunity to put the match away, outshooting the Trolls 27-13 with 16 shots on-goal to just four. Trinity Christian’s keeper, Becky Gold, finished the night with 16 saves, evenly spread out over the match with six in each regulation half and two in each overtime period. The Tigers just couldn’t sneak anything past her.
On the other end of the pitch, Olivet’s keeper, freshman Sarah Vrosh (Ada, Mich.), finished with four saves. The biggest scare for the Tigers came at 27:30 on the clock when the Trolls Kayla Diemer kicked a rocket towards the net that hit the cross bar and came straight down for her to head it back towards the goal on the rebound, only to be saved by Vrosh.
Junior Katie Smith (Spring Lake, Mich.) and sophomore Betsy Hetrick (Plainfield, Ind.) each finished the night with six shots, five on goal. Sophomore Michelle Ditchfield (Berkeley, Ill.) added three, with two on goal.
The Tigers now sit in fourth place in the CCAC, behind Robert Morris University (Ill.), Judson University (Ill.) and Trinity Christian. They will travel to St. Xavier University (Ill.) on Saturday, Oct. 12 for an 11:30 a.m. matchup with the Cougars.
