CHICAGO, Ill. – Sophomore Betsy Hetrick (Plainfield, Ill.) netting a goal from the left corner at the 6:42 mark in the No. 19 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer match with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Saint Xavier University (Ill.) on Saturday, Oct. 12 to give the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish. The Tigers now sit tied for third with University of Saint Francis in the CCAC standings.
The Tigers (8-3-1, 4-1-1) added two more goals in the opening half to take a 3-1 lead into the break. Hetrick took a pass from senior Jessica Bachelor (Metamora, Ill.) to score her second goal of the match off of a semi-breakaway from 10-yards out. Sophomore Liz Wahl (Homer Glen, Ill.) added another Tigers score at 52:22 from 5-yards out into the left corner.
Olivet’s defense kept the Cougars away from the net, allowing just nine shots on the day. Freshman keeper Sarah Vrosh (Ada, Mich.) finished the match with six saves.
Junior McKenzie Hengesh (Canton, Mich.) scored her first goal of the season 12 minutes into the second half off of a pass by freshman Ellen West (West Chester, Ohio) from 5-yards out into the lower right corner.
Olivet will host Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in CCAC action. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Snowbarger Athletic Complex.
