BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The day long drizzle that soaked the field wasn’t enough to stop the No. 17 Olivet Nazarene University women’s soccer team from a decisive 4-0 win over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Snowbarger Athletic Complex. Junior Katie Smith (Spring Lake, Mich.) scored three times in a matter of ten minutes in the second half to put the match out reach for the Wolves. The win keeps the Tigers knotted with Judson University (Ill.) at the top of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, each with 16 points.
Sophomore Betsy Hetrick (Plainfield, Ill.) continues to be on fire, netting what ended up being the game-winning goal at the 9:31 mark off of a pass by freshman Jenna Ayers (Colfax, Ill.). The two teams remained close the rest of the half, with Cardinal Stritch taking five shots to the Tigers six. Freshman keeper Sarah Vrosh (Ada, Mich.) finished the half with four saves, while the Wolves’ keeper saved three.
The second half was not quite so balanced as Olivet outshot Cardinal Stritch eight to one in the period. Smith started her scoring spree at the 56:29 mark off of a pass from senior Rachel Kilbry (Spring Lake, Mich.). Six minutes later she added her second on an assist from sophomore Michelle Ditchfield (Berkeley, Ill.) with junior Emily Rosenboom (Kankakee, Ill.) picking up the assist on the third and final goal at 66:08.
Olivet (9-3-1, 5-1-1) will host CCAC foe Calumet College of St. Joe (Ind.) at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Tigers defeated the Crimson Wave 8-0 when the two teams last met on Oct. 113, 2012.
