Tigers capture third place at University of Chicago Invite

CHICAGO – Junior Samantha Elam took first place in the 200-yard freestyle and third place in the 500-yard freestyle to help lead the Olivet Nazarene University women’s swim team at the University of Chicago Invite on Saturday, Jan. 12. The Tigers finished the day third in a field of 11 teams with 508.5 points; the host Maroons captured the title with 988 points and Calvin College (Mich.) finished second with 777.
Elam, a native of Granada Hill, Cal. touched the pad at 1:59.13 in the 200, while finished just four seconds behind the leaders in the 500 at 5:15.29. Freshman Kelsey Weener (Holland, Mich.) captured a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, coming in at 24.79.
Freshman Mary Wilson (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished the day with an individual second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing at 1:01.92. She also started the 400-yard medley relay team that finished second at 4:07.18, along with freshman Sydney Harris (Ft. Wayne, Ind.), sophomore Natalie VanDenack (Hastings, Mich.) and anchor Weener.
Olivet will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis University.
