BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene University women’s tennis team took advantage of a beautiful fall afternoon to dominate Bethel College on Thursday, Sept. 13, defeating the Pilot’s 9-0. The Tigers, who finished the 2011-2012 season 12-8-1 (5-1 CCAC) despite injuries to several key players, are healthy and fully staffed for the new season.
Senior Aurelie Hascoet (Thann, France), who finished last season ranked 47th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated Molly O’Grady 6-0, 6-3 in the No.1 spot. Junior Aziza Butoyi (Burundi, Bujumbura), who missed all of last spring, defeated Morgan McFarren 6-0, 6-1 and freshman Seraphine Buchmann (Illnau, Switzerland) defeated Bethany Blodgett 6-1, 6-1.
Seniors Taylor Stephens (Ada, Mich.) and Ashlan Allison (Anderson, Ind.), who spent most of a season ago filling whatever roll the team needed, continued where they left off. Stephens won at No. 4 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 while Allison came back after going down 4-6 to win 6-1, 1-0(10-2). Junior Lindsey Peterson (New Castle, Penn.) completed the singles sweep winning 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Hascoet and Buchmann teamed up to win 8-3 in the top spot. Butoyi and Stephens won 8-4, while Alison and junior Tifanny Aguirre (Bogota, Columbia) won 8-3.
On Sept. 21-211, Olivet will host the USTA/ITA Central-East Regional, an event that will bring many of the area’s top collegiate players to town.
