Olivet advances to CCAC Finals with quick win over Judson

BOURBONNAIS, Ill – The No. 14 Olivet Nazarene University women’s tennis team took full advantage of the best spring weather they have had to play in since returning from their spring trip to Florida. The Tigers needed just six matches to defeat Judson University (Ill.) in the semifinals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, April 26, downing the Eagles 6-0.

The Tigers (15-6) had their doubles teams back to normal after having the mix them up at the last minute due to an injury just a match ago. Junior (ITA No. 19) Aziza Butoyi (Burundi, Bujumbura) and freshman Seraphine Buchmann (Illnau, Switzerland) were back together at #1, defeating Alexa Williams and Marcilyn Rowen 8-2. Seniors Taylor Stephens (Ada, Mich.) and Ashlan Allison (Anderson, Ind.) teamed up to beat Megan Joyce and Kirstie Shales 8-1, while junior Lindsey Peterson (New Castle, Penn.) and freshman Charisma King (Kankakee, Ill.) made quick work of Kristen Kress and Angela Schultz, winning 8-0.

Taking the 3-0 lead into singles, quickly won three matches to secure the team victory and advance to the CCAC Tournament Championship. Butoyi (ITA No. 17) defeated Williams in the top spot, winning 6-1, 6-2. Olivet needed just one more win for the victory, but two matches ended simultaneous giving the Tigers the 6-0 win. In #5 singles, King easily defeated Shales 6-0, 6-0 while freshman Clara Ruegsegger (Greenfield, Ind.) defeated Schultz 6-0, 6-1.

Olivet will take on defending CCAC Champion Robert Morris University at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 with a berth to the 33rd Annual NAIA Woman’s Tennis National Championship on May 14-18, 2013 at the Mobile Tennis Center, Mobile, Ala. on the line.
