Tigers dominate in back-to-back CCAC matches

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The No. 24 Olivet Nazarene University women’s tennis team picked up two Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference wins, despite the frigid temperatures and high winds, sweeping all the matches. On Friday, March 28 the Tigers downed Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at home and defeated Judson University (Ill.) on the road on Saturday.

With the temperatures hovering around the freezing point at the start of the match on Friday afternoon, the Tigers (7-4, 2-0) made quick work of the Crimson Wave. Freshman Priscila Nunez (Montreal, Canada) and sophomore Serephine Buchmann (Illnau, Switzerland) downed Carolina Monterrubio and Leticia Monteiro 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Aziza Butoyi (Burundi, Bujumbura) and Tifanny Aguirre (Bogota, Columbia) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles over Mariana Portela and Paula Nieto. Senior Lindsey Peterson (New Castle, Penn.) and freshman Marta Quereda (Alicante, Spain) won at No. 3 doubles by default.

In singles action, Nunez downed Monterrubio 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Butoyi defeated Monteiro 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Buchmann picked up a win at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0 over Portela and Peterson downed Nieto 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Aguirre swept Castellanos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and sophomore Clara Ruegsegger (Greenfield, Ind.) won at No. 6 singles by default.

Less than 24 hours later, the Tigers took the court against the Eagles. Nunez and Buchmann picked up a No. 1 doubles win over Emmie Chan and Nyssa Fetzer 8-3. Butoyi and Aguirre dominated Marcilyn Rowen and Kirstie Shales at No. 2 doubles picking up an 8-1 win, while Peterson and Quereda downed Marissa Gauss and Michaela DeLong at No. 3 doubles 8-3.

The Tigers kept the Eagles from getting on the board in the top three singles matches, with Nunez, Butoyi and Buchmann all winning 6-0, 6-0. Peterson downed Shales 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, while Aguirre dominated Gauss 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Ruegsegger picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over DeLong.

Olivet will return to action at home on Tuesday, April 1 against the University of St. Francis in CCAC action. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
