Impressive showing for Tigers; 10 NAIA All-Americans honors

GEVENA, Ohio – It was a great weekend for the Olivet Nazerene University women’s track and field team at the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships held at the Spire Center in Gevena, Ohio from March 6-8. The Tigers came away with 15th overall finish in a strong 46 team field and a total of 10 All-American performances.
The Tigers closed the meet with an impressive performance by the 4x400m relay team of freshman Laura D’Angelo (McHenry, Ill.), sophomores Kammie Goedhart (Rochester, Minn.) and Peyton Kirkland (Lindenhurst, Ill.) and junior Alex Ortiz (Ottawa, Ill.). The foursome crossed the finish line in 3:48, breaking their own school record set in the preliminaries on Thursday.
Sophomore Amy Blucker (Galesburg, Ill.) placed fourth in the shot put, finishing at 14.29m.
In all, the Tigers had 10 All-American performances on the weekend, Blucker being the lone two-time honoree. Also earning the honor were: D’Angelo, Goedhart, Kirkland, Ortiz, Karley Brown, Christy Trank, Angelica Lafemina and Kylie Lippencott.
Defending national champion Oklahoma Baptist University took home the crown again with a total of 133 points with Indiana Tech University right behind with 123. Rounding out the top five were College of Idaho with 55, Cornerstone University (Mich.) with 49.5 and Embry-Riddle University with 32. The Tigers finished with a total of 18 points, tied with two other teams.
Olivet will take a short break before the start of the outdoor season. The Tigers are scheduled to open up the Washington University Invite in St. Louis, Mo. on March 28-29.
